The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been reformatted under the FAFSA Simplification Act to make it easier to submit information including using the Direct Data Exchange to pull in tax information. For the 2024-25 FAFSA, students (and spouse, as appropriate) will report their tax year 2022 income information.
If you are selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your tax information. Students can use the Direct Data Exchange (DDX) on the FAFSA by providing consent to automatically transfer tax information to the FAFSA and to the University. If you are not eligible to use the DDX, you must submit a signed copy of your 2022 Federal IRS Tax Return Transcript (TRT).
If you are a married student who is selected for Verification, Marquette University is required to confirm your spouse's tax information. Your spouse can use theDirect Data Exchange (DDX) on the FAFSA by selecting Link to IRS to automatically transfer tax information to the FAFSA and to the University. If your spouse is not eligible to use the DDX, your spouse must submit a signed copy of his/her 2022 Federal IRS Tax Return Transcript (TRT).
NOTE: If you or your spouse did not file a 2020 federal tax return and you receive notice you have been selected for verification, you must obtain documentation from the IRS that you did not file.
For more information about the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (including eligibility requirements) and for instructions for requesting a Federal IRS Tax Return Transcript, visit Guidelines for the Verification Process, 2024-25.
