Collaborative Research for Action Towards Equity in Health - Abiola O. Keller, PhD, MPH, PA-C
My research focuses on working with local communities to design, implement, and evaluate interventions to improve health outcomes, particularly for African-American women. I use participatory research methods such as group concept mapping and digital storytelling to create a shared understanding of health and to co-design actions that promote health and well-being with the goal of advancing health equity. I also have experience working with complex health survey data such as the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care, and National Ambulatory Medical Care Surveys. I am dedicated to collaborating with community stakeholders throughout the entire research project, ensuring their vital input. Using community-based participatory research methods, I actively involve the community and intervention recipients in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions that promote health and health care equity. At Dr. CJ's lab, I lead efforts focused on community-driven solutions to address inequities and advance health equity for marginalized adolescents and young adults living with chronic illnesses. I am part of a clinical/community collaborative supporting the integration of a specially trained IPV advocate from Sojourner Family Peace Center into a healthcare setting with the goals of providing clinic-wide education on IPV prevalence, screening, and resources, assisting in establishing a universal screening and referral protocol, providing a bridge between a healthcare setting and an IPV resource center, and training champions within the clinic setting to ensure sustainability once the project concludes.
