Prior to teaching at Marquette, Ryan was a community bank executive and business lender, lecturer of entrepreneurship at UW-Green Bay, lecturer at the Wisconsin School of Business (UW-Madison), adjunct or program/course leader at several other universities, and director of the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center at UW-Green Bay. He is the executive director of the Wisconsin Center for Employee Ownership, coaches and consults with family enterprise owners and serial founders, and owns a short-term rental co-hosting company. He's founded and co-founded several businesses and community efforts.
Ryan is a business ownership advocate and currently volunteers for ColorBold Business Association, Progress Lakeshore, SCORE, BizStarts, WWBIC, Business Lending Partners, Faith Driven Investors, the Wisconsin chapter of The ESOP Association, high school entrepreneurship classes, and high school FBLA and DECA programs. He has also volunteered for Main Street program boards, the European Innovation Academy as chief mentor, a 1 Million Cups community as lead organizer, the Governor's Business Plan Contest and Wisconsin YES! and e-Fest as a judge, The Pitch Fox Cities, the Wisconsin Economic Development Association, the American Marketing Association Northeast Wisconsin chapter, two young professionals networks, a Habitat for Humanity chapter, and several chambers of commerce/business associations.
