TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID

Research assistants (RAs) help faculty members with their research and receive approximately $17,100 per year, plus free tuition for up to 18 credit hours during the academic year. Research assistants conduct and transcribe interviews, enter and analyze statistical data, conduct surveys, run laboratory experiments, do library research, etc.

These positions are awarded on merit rather than financial need. RAs average 20 hours of work per week in addition to their full-time studies, and aren't employed elsewhere. RAs can renew their assistantships for a second year.

Indicate your interest in an RA position on your application form. Students already admitted into the program can apply to the Graduate Committee through Dr. Kati Berg. The application deadline is Feb. 15 for the fall semester and Nov. 15 for the spring semester.

Teaching assistants (TAs) take on duties such as leading course discussion sections and assisting in lab classes, supervised by a full-time faculty member. TAs receive approximately $17,100 per year and free tuition for up to 18 credit hours during the academic year.

Each year the college awards free tuition credits to qualified applicants, based on merit rather than financial need. Recipients typically are given three or more credits during a semester and are not required to work in return.

The application deadline is Feb. 15 for the fall semester, Nov. 15 for the spring semester and April 15 for summer. Students must apply each semester to be considered.

At present, only the college's journalism department offers fellowships. The Jeremiah O'Sullivan Fellowship, awarded to students in public affairs journalism, offers a stipend and/or tuition scholarship credits. The Eugene J. Schumack Memorial Journalism Fund, available to any student in journalism, also offers a stipend and/or tuition scholarship credits. The money in these two funds varies from year to year. To be considered for these fellowships, indicate your interest in any and all financial aid on the application form. Students already admitted into the program can apply to the Graduate Committee through Dr. Kati Berg.

If you are employed, ask your human resources representative whether tuition reimbursement is available. Marquette will provide documentation you need to take advantage of this benefit, such as proof that you completed a course.
