As a student writer myself, I am more than familiar with the stress and anxiety that is often present when crafting writing assignments. We all struggle with transposing our thoughts into words on a page, whether it be for a rhetorical analysis or a personal statement. I became a tutor at the Ott because I want to form meaningful and purposeful relationships with those of us in Marquette’s writing community. If there is one thing I have learned in my extensive training for this role, it is that there is a place for everyone in the writing center. Whether your interests lie in the arts or engineering or business, we are all engaging in discourse as writers. As a tutor it is my purpose to use my training and knowledge to best support writer’s ideas, while offering constructive feedback and an alternative perspective. My conferences are completely structured around the needs and concerns of the writer. Together, I hope to work through pieces in a collaborative manner- where both tutor and tutee are freely voicing concerns, opinions and thoughts throughout. While I am here to teach, I am also here to learn. I want to learn about you, your writing style, your assignment topic, and anything else that will help me to best provide comfort and support in the writing center. We are here for you!
