As energy sources transition to lower carbon emitting technologies, there is a growing need for engineering professionals to manage the transition and drive improvements in efficiency, cost, resource capture (wind, solar), sustainable materials and manufacturing.

Connecting the renewable energy generation to the end use is essential for innovative controls to optimize energy output and capture. The certificate electives provide the technical rigor to develop engineering solutions to these industry challenges.

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School at Marquette University, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Applicants who do not have an engineering degree must complete prerequisite engineering requirements. The list of required prerequisite course(s) is determined during the academic advising process. Students who do not meet the 3.000 requirement, but have completed one year of engineering work experience, are reviewed and considered based upon a letter of recommendation from their supervisor to determine the applicant’s ability to complete advanced course work.

Application Requirements

Read all application instructions prior to beginning an application.

1Upon admission, final official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities, with certified English translations if original language is not English, must be submitted to the Graduate School within the first five weeks of the term of admission or a hold preventing registration for future terms will be placed on the student’s record.

This program has rolling admission, which means you may apply and submit all application materials any time before the following dates:

  • Fall term admissions – August 1
  • Spring term admissions – December 15 

Applicants who wish to be considered for merit-based financial aid (scholarships) should be aware of the merit-based financial aid deadlines by which all applicant materials must be received by the Graduate School:

  • Fall term: February 15
  • Spring term: November 15

Dr. Ayman EL-Rafaie 

Dr. Ayman EL-RefaieAyman EL-Refaie (PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is the Werner Endowed Chair in Secure/Sustainable Energy and holds over 45 patents.  Dr. EL-Refaie has 12 years of corporate experience at GE Global Research Center (Power Conversion) and General Motors Advanced Technology Center. 

 

 


 

Dr. Nathan Weise

Dr. Nathan WeiseNathan Weise (PhD, University of Minnesota) is the lead of a DOE-ARPA-E CIRCUITS program focused on power converters and a DOE ARPA-E BREAKERS program focused on DC circuit breakers.  He has industrial experience with RTI Technologies on wave energy converters and was a finalist in the Department of Energy Wave Energy Prize.

 

 


 

Dr. Nabeel Demerdash 

Nabeel DemerdashNabeel Demerdash (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh), is the Director of the Simulation of Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (SEMPEED) Consortium in collaboration with industry.  Dr. Demerdash received numerous Technical Field, Prize Paper, and Research Excellence awards for his pioneering contributions to electric machine and drive systems design.

 


 

Mr. Arthur Harrington

Mr. Arthur HarringtonArthur J. Harrington, Esq (Law, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is Shareholder and Attorney at Godfrey and Kahn’s Environmental and Energy Strategies Practice.  Art has over 25 years of extensive experience in environmental and energy litigation at the state and national level and is a recognized leader of Brownfield remediation.  Mr. Harrington also serves as co-chair of the Policy Committee of the Midwest Energy Research Consortium.
