Kirsten has been an urban educator in Milwaukee since 1996. Prior to joining the College of Education at Marquette, she taught in the Milwaukee Public Schools as a regular education teacher, a literacy coach, and, most recently, as a special education teacher.
The seeds of her commitment to social justice, urban education, and Milwaukee’s students and their families were sown while she was a student in Milwaukee Public Schools during the 1970's and '80's. She went on to marry another MPS kid, and they are now the proud parents of two amazing twin boys.
“Our deepest calling is to grow into our own authentic self-hood, whether or not it conforms to some image of who we ought to be. As we do so, we will not only find the joy that every human being seeks—we will also find our path of authentic service in the world.” –Parker J. Palmer
