The mission of the Marquette University School of Dentistry is excellence in education, research, and service, resulting in the provision of high-quality health care consistent with Marquette’s mission of service to others. We are committed to expanding our research effort in our three key research themes. We strive to recruit strong research orientated faculty, students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows to become engaged in our research mission.
The Marquette University School of Dentistry is recognized as a premiere academic oral health center and a leader in oral health care research.
Clinical decision-making in dentistry relies on the continuous process of evidence-based dentistry driven by clinical outcomes research and the discovery of new knowledge driven by basic science research. There is an increasing need for expanding and validating the current and future knowledge base of the dental profession. The Marquette University School of Dentistry has a significant role in contributing to this knowledge base which will affect our learner’s clinical practice now and in the future. In fact, research and its importance to the advancement of the knowledge base of dentistry represents an important aspect of the Dental School's mission and strategic plan, and dovetails with our continuing efforts to update our dental facilities and technology for our students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows. Research is one of the four important themes found in our 2022-2027 strategic plan and therefore represents one of our measures of success.
Our research metrics of scientific publications, presentations, extramural funding, and technology transfer productivity have continued to increase due to our faculty’s commitment to our research mission and enterprise. I am also excited and encouraged by the many opportunities for the Dental School to contribute to the research mission of Marquette University and the profession of dental medicine. I fully support and am committed to continuing to enhance the research efforts of the Marquette University School of Dentistry, which represents a tangible investment in the future of Dentistry.
