Marquette’s Office of University Relations receives two CASE Best of District Awards
Nov. 16, 2023
MILWAUKEE — Marquette University’s Office of University Relations has received two Best of District V awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in the Communication/Storytelling and Marketing/Microsites categories.
"Rainforest Rick Shattering the Glass Frog Ceiling" was an integrated storytelling effort about a Marquette physics professor that included an external media pitch, which yielded two local TV news stories; a feature story on Marquette Today, the university’s internal news site; and the first episode in the university’s short-form video series, 60 Second Marquette. “Rainforest Rick” tells the story of Rick Boyd, teaching instructor of physics in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, who became only the second individual in the United States to successfully breed the granulosa glass frog in captivity.
“The process of bringing the story of ‘Rainforest Rick’ to life through a multi-channel approach was one of true collaboration and partnership across our marketing and communication teams and with our academic colleagues,” said Lynn Griffith, chief marketing and communication officer at Marquette. “The idea originated at the college level and was brought to the Office of University Relations. From there, our media relations, editorial and video production teams collaborated to comprehensively tell an interesting human interest story from our campus community.”
The Choose Your Major quiz is a microsite on the university’s Undergraduate Admissions website designed toward prospective students. It was previously honored by CASE with a Circle of Excellence Bronze Award, the organization’s premier awards program for higher education marketing communication work.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is the global association for professionals in advancement—alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and advancement services—who share the goal of championing education to transform lives and society. District Five, the Great Lakes District, encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and includes over 400 member institutions and more than 2,500 representatives.
