Find a faculty mentor. If a faculty member's research area is of interest to you, they may be interested in talking to you about the possibility of a new project or of incorporating you into an already existing project. A faculty member may also be interested in applying with you to an external research opportunity. How do you know if a faculty mentor is possibly the right match for you?
• Read faculty web pages, CVs, research abstracts, and LinkedIn pages.
• Read professional journals relevant to the project or field or articles that the mentor has published.
• Talk to their previous mentees.
Read tips about how to best approach a faculty mentor once you have narrowed your choice in project or research area.
