American photographer and filmmaker Ralph Steiner (1899-1986) was active in New York in the 1920s and 30s. He worked as a fine art photographer and experimental filmmaker, exhibiting his work in museums and galleries. He also accepted commercial photography assignments and produced promotional films for the government.
