Ignatian Examen on the Israel-Hamas conflict: Dialogue and discernment in difficult times

As the world and our own campus community grapple with the war between Israel and Hamas, the university community is invited to: “Ignatian Examen on the Israel-Hamas conflict: Dialogue and discernment in difficult times,” on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Raynor Memorial Libraries Beaumier Suites. All students, faculty and staff are invited to learn, reflect and dialogue with the goal of discerning how we can work on behalf of peace and justice.

St. Ignatius Loyola’s Examen is an opportunity for peaceful, daily reflective prayer, which invites us to find the movement of God in all the people and events of our day. We cannot hope to make progress toward peace if we remain at the level of mutually exclusive positions; instead let us find a way to humanize one another through conversation.

This event will provide a space for all members of the Marquette community to learn about the complexities of this situation and affirm the inherent dignity of every person. Members of our Jesuit community, as well as faculty and staff with expertise in the Middle East, peacemaking and discernment, will serve as small-group facilitators.

All faculty, staff and students are invited to this free event. Refreshments will be served. No registration is required.

Panel presentation and dialogue dinner on Marquette and affirmative action

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion will host a panel presentation and a dialogue dinner regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision on affirmative action in higher education and its impact on Marquette on Thursday, Oct. 26.

The event, titled “Living Our Mission: Marquette University after the U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Affirmative Action in Higher Education,” will begin with the panel presentation from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium. Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity for students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members to continue the dialogue regarding the recent affirmative action decision and its implications for Marquette over a Civic Dialogues pizza dinner in AMU 227. The dinner will run until 5:30 p.m.

Register online to attend.

Required Training Updates

Leadership is one of the pillars of Marquette. Leadership, in an Ignatian sense, encompasses being a contemplative in action—that is a reflective and active leader who is part of the community.

As student leaders we want to invest in your formation. All organizations were required to send one officer to Lifesavers Training last spring, and we are offering additional sessions this fall to catch orgs who could not attend. We are also requiring the president or another officer on the roster to attend a minimum of THREE Leadership development opportunities in fall 2023/early spring 2024.

Check to see what trainings your organization has attended.

The student orgs team is putting together some trainings to run this semester and next semester before organization renewal in March.
