Kelly Kliebhan, Arts '99, and Belton Flournoy, Bus Ad '03, played key roles in establishing the Marquette European Alumni Network. Kelly coordinated the first European alumni event in 2009 in Paris. Since then, alumni have met in Geneva, London and Rome. Belton, who relocated from Wisconsin to London in 2011, has hosted events for alumni and study-abroad students.
Leif Brostrom, Comm '10, of Minneapolis, uses his professional social-media savvy to keep Twin Cities alumni informed of local club events. More than 180 people attended the club's Elite Eight game-watching event in March, including 30 current students during Easter break who learned about the event via Twitter. Matt Sallaberry, Bus Ad '00, led alumni in the St. Louis area to endow a regional club scholarship fund in just two years. Through its annual golf outing fundraiser, the club fostered community relationships to rally St. Louis alumni around the spirit of giving to Marquette. MUAA Board of Directors starts new year with September conference;
9 first-time directors join the effort
For 120 years, the Marquette University Alumni Association National Board of Directors has guided activities for alumni. Today, the board is a 29-member advisory body dedicated to creating a passionate community of Marquette alumni in service to the university and each other. Directors represent college-based chapters and regions of the country; the group gathers on campus for tri-annual conferences. Mary Kerr O'Toole, Eng '79, of Inverness, Ill., began her presidency in July and will lead the board in 2013-14. Learn more about the MUAA Board of Directors.
Alumni extend a Marquette welcome to incoming freshmen at Summer Send-off events around the country
Mike, Bus Ad '90, and Karen Rhodes of Plymouth, Minn., hosted their 17th Marquette Summer Send-off this July. Each summer, alumni across the country host local incoming Marquette freshmen and their families at fun, informal gatherings to ensure that no student arrives on campus without knowing a few friendly faces. San Diego burns brightly with blue and gold
Lisa Luczyk, Comm '05, has mobilized San Diego alumni to coordinate an array of Marquette gatherings throughout the year. Lisa, the Marquette Club of San Diego president since 2008, taps into alumni interests and strengths to lead volunteers to organize and attend golf outings, wine tastings, horse races, polo matches and Marquette athletics game-watching parties. Ruder family turns basketball bonding into scholarship fund
Megan Ruder Roche, Arts '97, and her husband, Mike Roche, Arts '97, have a passion for family and Marquette. In 2012, Megan and Mike helped resurrect a beloved Ruder family Marquette basketball tradition called "James Weekend" in memory of Megan’s father, James Ruder, who passed away last December. But the legacy didn’t stop there. To further honor James' memory, the James P. Ruder Family Scholarship was established to help support deserving students desiring a Marquette education. National Marquette Day 'Shoot-out' event grows Texas scholarship
Maureen (Bissing) Bergan, Arts '92, devised a way to tie giving to National Marquette Day last March: she coordinated a "Free-throw Shoot-out."The event netted almost $500 for the North Texas regional club scholarship, which helps deserving students from the area attend Marquette. Why I represent Marquette at college fairs

In 1978, Marquette asked if I would represent the university at a college fair in my hometown, Rochester, N.Y. I said "yes" immediately. The next year and many years after, I did the spring and fall college fairs in Rochester as an alumni representative. Now that my husband and I live in South Carolina, I have represented Marquette in college fairs there and in Savannah, Ga.
Volunteering can be a small part or a large part of your time. It costs you nothing. Acting as an alumni representative for Marquette University is one of the most rewarding things you can do for your alma mater.
