Our tutoring program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), which is a professional organization composed of learning centers at colleges and universities across the nation. Certification sets professional standards of skill and training for tutors and provides recognition and positive reinforcement for tutors’ successful work.
Once our tutors complete the mandatory 10 hours of training provided by our office and required by CRLA along with 25 hours of tutoring in our office, they earn the title of Associate Tutor.
Our tutors are given the opportunity to advance their skills with optional additional training provided by our office throughout the academic year. A tutor who obtains 20 hours of training and 50 hours of tutoring becomes an Advanced Tutor. 30 hours of training and 75 hours of tutoring merits Master Tutor. Many of our tutors willingly attend these optional sessions. We are encouraged by our tutors' commitment to their continued professional development. As a result of the additional training, the skills and effectiveness of our tutors is enhanced and the students who use our services benefit from their additional education.
If you are interested in learning more about CRLA and its requirements, you can review the CRLA website.
