Alcohol and Other Drugs Education and Prevention

The following programs are utilized at Marquette as a part of our comprehensive approach to reducing the illegal and high-risk use of alcohol and the resulting consequences:

BASICS

Developed by researchers at the University of Washington, BASICS, which stands for Brief Alcohol
Screening and Intervention for College Students, has as the primary goal to move a student in the direction of reducing risky behaviors and the harmful effects from drinking instead of overtly centering on abstaining or drinking reduction.

BASICS is conducted over the course of two hour long interviews between the student and a trained facilitator. Marquette takes student safety and health very seriously, striving to educate students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
