Magis Award recipients are students, nominated by staff, who have demonstrated the concept of magis in some way (i.e. doing more for Christ, doing more for others, “the more universal good”). Magis should be thought of as depth and not necessarily quantity of engagements. A student who receives a Magis award is someone who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, excellence, dedication and commitment above and beyond the requirements of a paid or appointed role. These awards are selected by a a committee comprised of staff across Student Affairs and Campus Ministry and announced at the awards ceremony.

First-Year Student Magis Award: Bridgeman Flowers

Bridgeman Flowers is a freshman in the College of Education majoring in Secondary Education. Bridgeman is from Milwaukee WI and lives in the 53206 area. He formerly served as a commuter senator within Marquette Student Government, and the chair of the Racial Justice, and Equality committee. He actively serves as an executive member of the Black Student Union, Black Student Council, and Marquette Student Government. His position on the MUSG E-board  is the Vice President of Outreach. Bridgeman is also an active member of the Milwaukee community through his past work with BSC tutoring, Rise, Serve to Unite, Casa Romero Renewal Center, and Messmer High School.

Second-Year Student Magis Award: Ana Hudson

Ana Hudson is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences. She’s part of the  Burke Scholars program and also serves as a Resident Assistant. She has been involved in the Justice in Action Conference and has served at the Cathedral Center as a discussion facilitator for MKE roots.

Junior Magis Award: Michelle Batad

Michelle Batad is a junior, double majoring in secondary education and English, and minoring in creative writing. She is a First Generation Filipino American student at Marquette.Currently, she serves as the president of Bayanihan Student Organization,Marquette’s Filipinx American  organization established in 1988. Michelle is also a first year peer writing center tutor at Norman H. Ott Memorial Writing Center. This summer, Michelle will be a SPARK leader representing the College of Education and will also be an Orientation Leader to the incoming freshman class of Marquette.

Senior Magis Award: Alexander Liberato

Alexander Liberato is a senior studying Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He currently serves as the president of the Native American Student Association and is the student body representative for the Marquette University Seal Committee, which is working to change Marquette’s seal. His involvements and accomplishments include hoisting the Service banner at last year’s Mission Week Mass, speaking at the Symposium for Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice, serving on a committee with administration to address Native issues, and  building a committee to adopt an official Marquette  Land Acknowledgment this spring. He also works in the community, serving as an intern for the Near West Side Partners to bring businesses to the Near West Side.
