What are the Terms and Conditions for Monthly Recurring Memberships?

Terms and Conditions:

1. Payment Authorization. By signing up for agreement billing, you authorize Marquette Recreational Sports to charge your credit/debit card at the rate applicable at the time of your initial agreement (unless changed as described below), plus any applicable local, state, or federal taxes. You may be responsible for other charges imposed by your credit card provider or financial service provider in connection with your membership. Payments will be processed by Fusion and Freedom Pay according to its terms and may be subject to other third-party terms that are apart from and outside Marquette University’s control.

2. Monthly Recurring. By purchasing a Marquette Recreational Sports Membership, you agree that your membership will automatically renew on the 1st of each month. You further agree to have a valid credit or debit card stored in your membership account and authorize automatic payments on this schedule. (You can update this information through Payment Options on the Member Portal.) Your membership will continue to renew until you cancel in accordance with the cancellation terms below. You authorize Freedom Pay to continue to charge your payment method for the price of your subscription, plus any applicable taxes, unless and until you cancel (as outlined below).

3. Pro-rated. Membership prices will be pro-rated at time of sale to reflect the cost of your first month's membership on the actual date-of-purchase.

4. University Calendar. You understand that Marquette Recreational Sports is part of Marquette University, an academic institution. All pricing is based on the Marquette University Academic Calendar and hours are set accordingly. Membership refunds will not be provided for planned closures, adjusted hours, holidays, periods between semesters, academic breaks, weather-related closures, scheduled events that limit or restrict Member access, and closures for maintenance.

5. Cancellation & Refunds. To avoid the automatic renewal of your membership, you must cancel your membership at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the 1st of the month. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the 1st of the month, your membership will continue as scheduled and your cancellation will take effect at the end of the next billing cycle. To cancel your membership, fill out the cancellation form. While you may cancel your Marquette Recreational Sports Membership at any time, you understand and agree that Marquette does not offer refunds or partial credits for membership cancellations made mid-month.

6. Membership Price Changes. We reserve the right to make changes to your Marquette Recreational Sports Membership price, frequency, or date of charge. If the cost of your subscription increases, you will be provided with written notice prior to the billing period in which the change will become effective and you must opt into the price increase in order to continue to have access to your Marquette Recreational Sports Membership following the end of your current billing period.

7. Rule & Termination. You agree to follow all rules of Marquette Recreational Sports and follow any instructions given by the Marquette Recreational Sports staff. Marquette Recreational Sports reserves the right to immediately terminate your membership and access to its facilities at any time if Marquette Recreational Sports determines in its sole discretion that you have breached this Agreement or any relevant law, rule, or regulation or you have engaged in conduct that Marquette Recreational Sports considers to be inappropriate, unsafe, or unacceptable. No refunds or credits will be given for memberships terminated under this provision.

How will my card be stored?

Using a secure online token.  You can view the PCI Data Security Standard documentation.

How do I update my saved card to a new card (due to an expiring card or lost/stolen card)?

Follow these steps to update your card for a recurring monthly membership/locker. If the card is no longer valid and not updated prior to the monthly billing, a declined payment will result in a membership suspension, effective immediately (member will receive an email). Lockers will also be subject to cancellation.

  1. Sign in (top right) to Member Portal using your login credentials
  2. Click on your username in top right
  3. Click “Profile” on the drop-down menu
  4. Select “Payment Options” on left-hand side menu (bottom option)
    - Recurring payment card will be located here; click Update button
    - Enter new card information & click SUBMIT
    - A $1.00 authorization amount will show as pending on your new credit card; this will not post to your account

What happens if my card payment is declined?

Your membership is suspended and you do not have access to any facility .

To continue your membership, the Member will need to pay off the current invoice and update the payment card associated with the agreement. Once the updated card is saved to their account, the previous one is able to be removed.  (You can update this information through Payment Options on the Member Portal.)  An invoice will be created for the dates starting with the day your card was declined, through the current day.  This must be completed by the 5th of the month or your Membership will be canceled.

When will I see the charge posted to my account?

You should see the monthly charge posted to your account between the 1st and the 10th of each month. If you purchase multiple items such as a membership, locker, and household family member, these may show as three separate payments on your monthly statement.

How do I cancel my membership?

You may use this cancellation form to cancel your Membership.

To avoid the automatic renewal of your membership, you must cancel your membership at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the 1st of the month. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the 1st of the month, your membership will continue as scheduled, and your cancellation will take effect at the end of the next billing cycle.

As a reminder, no refunds are given on the date of cancellation. Your membership will run through the month you choose to cancel.

Why are there no refunds?

With the new structure, you are only locked into a month-long membership. This allows you to cancel at any time during the month prior.

Why is Rec Sports going cashless?

Most transactions are conducted online through the Member Portal, so patrons are encouraged to use the Member Portal for all transactions; we do still offer an in-person option.  Additionally, for the safety of our students, we do not want cash in our Main Office.

Do you accept Marquette Cash as a payment option?

Marquette Cash is still accepted and can be used to pay one-time fees such as lost equipment, swim lessons, personal training, etc. Marquette Cash cannot be used for recurring payments such as memberships and lockers.

How do I confirm my eligibility if I am a MU Faculty/Staff, Jesuit, MIAD Student, MU Retiree or MU Alumni?

Current MU Faculty and Staff have their eligibility automatically confirmed and can sign into the member portal by clicking the Blue Button that says, “Marquette Univ Email Users Click Here!”

Jesuits and MIAD Students should email Sandy O’Donoghue to confirm eligibility. Please provide your first and last name, date of birth, and the eligibility you want to confirm.

MU Retirees should obtain their retiree MU ID from Card Services at Union Station and present the card to the Member Services staff in our main office.

MU Alumni must show their MU Alumni ID card to the Member Services staff in our main office.  Rec Sports will then order you a Member ID, you cannot use your student MUID after becoming and alumni.  MU Alumni should receive their MU Alumni ID card upon graduation. If you need a new or replacement MU alumni ID card, you may request a new one here.  A new one will arrive to you in two weeks or can be picked up at Zilber Hall. If you have questions, please contact the Alumni Association at alumni@marquette.edu or (800) 344-7544.

What do I need to do to continue my membership if I'm leaving my job at MU?

If retiring, you need to obtain a retiree ID card from Card Services at Union Station and update your information with our main office. If you are not retiring and not an alum (26 credit minimum), you would be able to renew your membership as a community member.

I took some classes at MU and didn't finish here, but my parents are alumni. Do I qualify as an affiliate?

Alumni status is determined by completing a minimum of 26 credits, not a family member.

Who can be added as a Household Family Member?

Rec Sports follows the same guidelines as the university’s health insurance. Household family members are defined as spouse or registered domestic partner and dependent children (25 years of age or younger). Siblings, parents, grandparents, etc. qualify.

How do I gain access to the Parking Lot at the Rec Plex (Lot R)?

Once you purchase a membership, parking is included with Memberships.

Who do I contact with questions regarding Memberships?

You may e-mail James Friel at anytime!
