Marquette University names Dr. Kati Tusinski Berg acting dean of the Diederich College of Communication
Nov. 25, 2024
MILWAUKEE — Dr. Kati Tusinski Berg, associate dean for academic affairs in the Diederich College of Communication at Marquette University, has been named acting dean of the college, Acting Provost Sarah Feldner announced today. Berg’s new role is effective immediately; she will retain her associate dean role, as well.
Berg will serve as acting dean until Feldner returns to the position once a permanent provost is named. A national search for the permanent provost will begin soon.
“Dr. Berg has held key leadership positions in the Diederich College, and she has the respect of her colleagues in the college and across campus,” Acting Provost Feldner said. “She is a committed scholar, beloved teacher and a keen academic strategist — I know she will serve and represent the college and the university incredibly well in this role.”
“It is my honor and privilege to serve the students, faculty and staff of the Diederich College of Communication in this way,” Berg said. “Likewise, I look forward to working with my colleagues on the University Leadership Council to continue moving Marquette forward.”
Berg, who has served as associate dean for academic affairs since May 2022, was previously the Diederich College of Communication’s associate dean for graduate studies and research; prior to that, she was chair of the Department of Strategic Communication. She has been at Marquette since 2006.
An associate professor of strategic communication, Berg teaches courses in public relations and corporate communication. Her research interests include public relations advocacy, corporate social responsibility, social media, lobbying and ethics. Berg’s work has been published in the Journal of Mass Media Ethics, Public Relations Journal and PRism. In 2011, she was named a Page Legacy Scholar through the Arthur W. Page Center for her project on social media and corporate social responsibility.
Berg currently serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Marquette, a position she has held since 2021. She is a former member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations Society of America, and an Academic Member of the European Centre for Public Affairs. She is currently a member of TEMPO Milwaukee.
Berg holds a Ph.D. in communication and society from the University of Oregon. She earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in communication from St. Louis University.
