Marquette University celebrating Black History Month with full slate of events

MILWAUKEE —Marquette University will host a full slate of events in honor of Black History Month in February.
- Dr. Dominique Pritchett will be the keynote speaker at a dinner as part of the Celebrating Black History Month - Health and Wellness Series on Thursday, Feb. 17. Pritchett is a therapist, speaker, mental wellness consultant and media contributor. She will lead an interactive conversation on moving from burnout to breakthrough, teaching strategies to identify and reframe burnout. Other health and wellness events include Embody Yoga, Vision Boarding for 2022 and Xtreme Hip Hop Step Aerobics.
A screening of “The Loyola Project” will be open to the public on Feb. 22. “The Loyola Project” is a documentary film about the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, which won the 1963 NCAA Championship during the civil rights movement. This is part of the national 63 for 63 Screening Series presented by Northwestern Mutual.- Raynor Memorial Libraries and the Ott Memorial Writing Center will host a Douglass Day Transcribe-A-Thon on Monday, Feb. 14. The event will honor the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass through collective action—transcription—with the goal of increasing the accessibility of Black scholars’ and activists’ written works.
- The annual Justice in Action Conference is Saturday, Feb. 19. This one-day, student-focused conference explores the meaning of justice in the community through a variety of lenses such as service, community and social change.
Additionally:
- The Marquette University Student Government will host movie screenings of “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “King Richard,” and “Respect.”
- Campus Ministry will hold two special Soup with Substance events featuring the Center for Urban Research Teaching and Outreach and participants in the Civil Rights Pilgrimage.
- The month concludes with the Ebony Ball, presented by Black Student Council, on Sunday, Feb. 27.
