MILWAUKEE — Jeanne Ezzell, assistant director of tutorial programs in the Office of Student Educational Services at Marquette University, is the recipient of a 2021 Excellence in University Service Award.
The Excellence in University Service Award recognizes staff members for their contributions to the essential work of Marquette at the highest level of excellence. Candidates are nominated based on meritorious service that is above and beyond the duties normally assigned to their positions.
“I really am thrilled and honored to have won this award,” Ezzell said. “In a year as tough as this past one, we were still able to ensure our students always came first, and I am sincerely grateful to all of my colleagues who nominated me. It is easy to do your best work when working with great colleagues and students.”
Throughout the numerous nominations she received for the award, Ezzell is described as a caring person who truly embodies the values of the university.
“Jeanne Ezzell is exceptionally dedicated to Marquette University, the mission of the institution, and the students who make our campus come to life. Jeanne not only rises to every challenge presented but is consistently searching for new and innovative ways to make our services the very best,” wrote one nominator.
Ezzell is known across campus for her quick thinking and problem-solving abilities. She is always ready to delegate but makes it a priority to take suggestions from others into consideration. Her thoughtful and purposeful work ethic make her an ideal teammate and the perfect person for such a significant role in shaping the student experience.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented new challenges in the realm of tutoring and motivating students. Ezzell’s colleagues said she demonstrated impressive poise and confidence and did everything she could to ensure students continued to receive the educational experience they need and deserve.
“This was no small task, and I personally witnessed her relentless pursuit of excellence,” another nominator wrote. “She worked weekends, evenings, whatever was needed to ensure her students felt recognized and encouraged and that those that needed help received it.”
It is clear Ezzell impacts and touches the lives of everyone she meets.
One individual wrote that upon meeting with Ezzell, “you may even leave that encounter with a few new ideas for your department and a renewed spirit for serving students.”
Ezzell’s energy and passion for enhancing life and learning at Marquette is an invaluable asset to the university.
