Cyber awareness conference scheduled for Oct. 11 at Marquette

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense will host “Own IT, Protect IT, Secure IT” in honor of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Speakers will discuss how to build the workforce, fill the pipeline and enhance cybersecurity awareness in organizations. Dr. Blair Taylor, clinical professor of computer and information sciences at Towson University, will serve as keynote speaker and discuss strategies to increase the cybersecurity pipeline and cybersecurity for all. She is a national expert in cybersecurity education and curriculum development and works as a contracted subject matter expert on cybersecurity education with the National Security Agency.
The keynote address will be followed by a panel on national, state and local workforce development featuring representatives from the State of Wisconsin, FBI, National Cybersecurity Alliance and the Department of Homeland Security. A session of lightning talks will follow on the cybersecurity awareness efforts of several advisory companies, including Marquette, Northwestern Mutual, Fiserv and Rockwell Automation.
The Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense Center provides excellence in education about cybersecurity, service through partnerships with the university and community, and research opportunities in cybersecurity technology, cybersecurity preparedness and cybersecurity education. Marquette has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency for the path of MS in Computing with a specialization in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense.
