Marquette University and Georgetown University announce visiting professor partnership

MILWAUKEE — Marquette University and Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C., have announced that Lisa Grabert, MPH, will serve as a visiting professor and health policy researcher at Marquette and as a research professor at Georgetown.

Grabert's appointment is funded by the Institute for Critical Care, a 501(c)(3) that supports health policy research. Grabert has most recently served as a senior staff member for health policy at the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Ways and Means.

"Lisa will truly be a gift to our college community. She has a demonstrated ability to successfully turn complex issues into bipartisan legislation that has been signed into law," said Dr. Janet Wessel Krejci, dean of Marquette's College of Nursing.

Grabert's areas of academic interest are Medicare, Medicaid and health insurance. Her subspecialties are government regulatory and reimbursement systems and how those systems impact patient care and the supply of healthcare facilities. "Having the ability to merge the clinical and policy expertise at two of our nation's stellar Jesuit institutions is a dream come true for any healthcare researcher and I am honored to take on these dual roles," said Grabert of the partnership.

"Health care finance is an incredibly important issue area, with questions that not only have huge financial implications, but also that affect the quality of health care people get. We are excited that Lisa will be able to apply her experience and expertise to help guide policymakers toward improving the system," said Dr. Michael Bailey, dean of McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.

Grabert holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in public health from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She has worked in Washington for the past sixteen years. Grabert's joint appointment at Marquette began on June 1.
