2017 Outstanding Nature Photographer winner to speak Sept. 7

ReptileMILWAUKEE — Christian Ziegler, world-renowned nature photojournalist from Germany, will lecture at Marquette University on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium, 1506 Wisconsin Ave.

Ziegler, a tropical ecologist, is a regular contributor to National Geographic and has been published in Geo, Smithsonian and BBC Wildlife. His main passion is to highlight species and ecosystems under threat and share their beauty and importance with a broad audience.

In 2017, he was named the Outstanding Nature Photographer by the North American Nature Photography Association. He also won four World Press Photo contest awards from 2013-16.

After working in tropical rain forests on four continents and acting as an associate for communication with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama for 12 years, Ziegler photographed the award-winning coffee table book on tropical ecology, A Magic Web.

Ziegler currently lives at the edge of a rain forest near a national park in central Panama.

The event is sponsored by the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences to highlight a new multi-disciplinary environmental studies major.
