Marquette's College of Health Sciences Receives $1 Million Gift from Dennis and Barbara Klein

MILWAUKEE — Marquette University's College of Health Sciences today announced that it has received a $1 million gift from Dennis and Barbara Klein, both alumni of Marquette University. The gift will be used to establish the Dennis and Barbara Klein Health Sciences Innovation Fund.

The fund will support scientists in the College of Health Sciences to explore new areas of study and to expand existing lines of research, particularly in the realm of neuropsychiatric illness.

"It's important to us to support the ongoing research in this college at Marquette," said Dennis Klein. "These researchers are at the leading edge of their field and we want to help provide them with critical resources needed to advance this important this work."

"Dennis and Barbara are great friends of the college and longstanding supporters of Marquette University," said Dr. William E. Cullinan, dean of the College of Health Sciences and director of the Integrative Neuroscience Research Center at Marquette. "This generous gift will accelerate the pace of work of our research teams as they strive to disclose underlying causes of mental illness and devise faster acting and more effective strategies to treat them."

"The work being done in the College of Health Sciences is a key driver toward our goal of doubling research at Marquette in the next five years," said President Michael R. Lovell. "On behalf of the Marquette community, I thank Dennis and Barbara for both this gift and their long-standing support of the university's programs and people."
