What is the Global Seal of Biliteracy?

  • The Global Seal of Biliteracy is a national/international-level proficiency credential for bilingual language learners. It is an award that certifies that you can read, write, listen, and speak in two or more languages, such as English and Spanish. The Global Seal certifies language skills through national, external testing.
  • The Global Seal of Biliteracy is a serial-numbered Bilingual Credential that can be added to resumes, CVs, or LinkedIn in the “Licenses and Certifications” area of your profile.

How do I earn a Global Seal of Biliteracy?

  1. Begin Application: To begin your application, email Dr. Sonia Barnes to express your plans to apply for the Global Seal of Biliteracy.         
  2. Test: You must take the Avant STAMP 4S test and achieve a score that meets one of two qualifying award levels: Functional Fluency (Intermediate Mid) or Working Fluency (Advanced Low). The test costs $34.90 and includes remote proctoring so that you can take the test anywhere.
    • Avant STAMP (Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency) is an internationally recognized web-based test that assesses language proficiency. An Avant STAMP 4S test has four sections: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The test questions are based on real-world, everyday situations. Avant STAMP 4S measures a test taker’s language ability according to Benchmark Levels that are based on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.Test results will indicate the level of proficiency achieved for each section of the test.

    • Click here to register and pay for the STAMP 4S test. After registration and payment, you will receive an email describing the next steps. Any technical questions you have prior to the test should be directed to Avant Assessment Support.
  1. Apply: Marquette University applies for the Global Seal of Biliteracy on your behalf once coursework information and scores have been received.
  2. Receive: Your personalized Global Seal of Biliteracy and unique serial-numbered credential will be given to Dr. Barnes and then shared with you.
  3. Limited financial assistance is available to cover the cost of the test to those who qualify. When you apply, indicate in your email to Dr. Barnes that you are also seeking financial assistance.

  • The Global Seal of Biliteracy offers a free adaptive self-assessment so that you can have a general estimate of where you might place in the ACTFL Proficiency Scale.

    • Más de 90% de los empleadores quieren empleados bilingües.

  1. Cursos de español en Marquette: Para poder solicitar el Sello Global de Bilingüismo (Working Fluency), tienes que completar dos cursos avanzados de español (de nivel 4000) en Marquette. Para empezar tu solicitud, escríbele un correo electrónico al Dr. Sonia Barnes en el que expreses tu interés en el Global Seal of Biliteracy. Debes incluir documentación oficial de los cursos de nivel 4000 que has tomado (e.g., Checkmarq).
  1. Examen: Tienes que tomar el examen Avant Stamp 4S. En este examen, tienes que demostrar uno de dos niveles de competencia: Functional Fluency (Intermedio Medio) o Working Fluency (Avanzado Bajo). El costo del examen es $34. Incluye supervisión remota.
