History Graduate Student Organization and Graduate Students
Our history graduate community is truly collaborative. Students regularly help one another with projects, whether that means something as simple as loaning a colleague a book, reading and critiquing a dissertation chapter, or giving teaching advice. The History Graduate Student Organization (HGSO) fosters this environment by bringing together scholars at both the M.A. and Ph.D. levels to ensure that all students have access to the support and information they need to be successful.
About HGSO
The HGSO holds regular meetings, hosts social activities, and coordinates orientations, professional development workshops, and meetings with visiting scholars. Officers act as liaisons between the graduate student community and the faculty, and represent that community's interests within the wider Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at Marquette
The History Graduate Community
The graduate program in history provides students with a strong foundation in narrative and historiography, while giving them the tools needed to succeed as professional scholars and teachers. As a graduate student, you are an integral part of the program; both the student community and the faculty are genuinely interested in supporting you as a student and as a person. Our graduate community is a collegial one in which students work together toward each others intellectual and professional development. Graduate students in the history program will find lively discussion in the classroom and guidance through all steps of the professional process: presenting and publishing research, crafting a well-rounded curriculum vitae, and entering the job market.
