College of Professional Studies Recipients
Spirit of the College Award
Rosemarie E. Meagher, Prof St '04, Grad '10
Elm Grove, Wis.
As a child, Rose told her father she planned to be an elementary teacher. And, as a consultant, she is teaching and sharing her knowledge and experience to help others become better leaders and, ultimately, better men and women for the world.
It’s in her work helping others that she finds something invaluable — joy.
Before starting Meagher Consulting LLC, Rose was a vice president of education at JPMorgan Chase & Co., with a promising but demanding future. It was her Marquette experience, she says, that gave her the confidence to leave Chase and start her own business.
“My Marquette experience gave me the confidence and helped me realize that there was something else out there for me and that I could go for it,” Rose says. “Marquette is more than an education; it’s an experience.”
Rose specializes in organizational and talent development with southeast Wisconsin financial institutions and manufacturers. She says helping people become the best leader they can be is rewarding. “Give more than you receive, and success will come,” she says. “Whether you give in time, talent or treasure.”
This year, Rose was asked to lead a discussion on “Finding Joy on the Job” at UWM’s Women’s Leadership Conference.
And joy is something she knows is worth finding and sharing.
Fun Facts
Hometown: Milwaukee
Favorite book or favorite quote: I would choose Good to Great for a business book. It's an oldie but goodie.
Name someone (past or present) with whom you'd like to have dinner: My mom. My mom died when I was only 8 years old, and I'd love to spend any time with her. Even just a dinner would be great!
Marquette faculty or staff member who had an impact on you, and how: So many Marquette faculty and staff had an impact on me. If I had to pick one, it would be Jay Caulfield. She introduced me to the study of leadership and continued to grow my interest in it throughout my studies into Graduate School.
Favorite Marquette memory: My undergraduate cohort. I still see and meet up with my friends, all of whom are successful people in our world. I can count on them for anything.
When you were in grade school, what did you want to be when you grew up, and why? I remember in third grade telling my dad I wanted to be a teacher. I thought I would teach elementary school. I am teaching, but teaching adults in business usually at the executive level. I wonder if there is a correlation?
Who has been the most influential person in your life, and why? My husband has made my life the beautiful story that it is. I have so much gratitude for him. He is the most amazing man I know for so many reasons, especially for the kind of husband and father he is and also the great leader he has become. He has influenced many lives in a quiet way.”
