National Poetry Month


Anyone who knows or has read about Marquette University President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., may be aware that he loves poetry. During National Poetry Month through April, Father Pilarz encourages members of the Marquette community to learn about the art of poetry. Learn more and read one of his favorite poems.


Alumni award recipients to be honored April 26-28


The Marquette University Alumni Association honors alumni and friends who are making a difference in their communities and beyond. This year's recipients include Alumnus of the Year Glenn "Doc" Rivers, Arts '85, along with more than 50 other alumni and friends of the university who will be honored at Alumni National Awards Weekend, April 26-28.

Belton Flournoy IIIBelton Flournoy III, CISA (Bus Ad ’03) has been named a manager in the IT Consulting arm at Protiviti in London, specializing in their End User Computing service line (also known as spreadsheet risk). He also leads Marquette's Alumni European Network in London.


Mark D. BoreenMark D. Boreen, Bus Ad ’07, has joined the
non-profit group Tanzania Volunteer Experience as the communications director in Arusha, Tanzania. The organization focuses on supporting the local community while experiencing the Tanzanian way of life. His responsibilities include recruiting and supporting new volunteers.

Noah Patrick SteinfelsCaptain George H. Steinfels, Arts '06, and wife Jamie Lynn welcomed son Noah Patrick at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital. Noah weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. and joins big brother Caleb James, 18 months. Steinfels returned from a seven-month combat deployment in Afghanistan and plans to move with his family from Camp Lejeune, N.C., to Norfolk, Va., Installation.

University CIO and Marquette alumnus to receive award from Institutional Investor magazine
Marquette University’s Chief Investment Officer Sean Gissal has been named Small Endowment Manager of the Year in Institutional Investor magazine's 2012 U.S. Investment Management Awards. He is among eight U.S. institutional investors whose innovative strategies and fiduciary savvy resulted in impressive overall fund performance.

In addition, Marquette salutes Daniel Fuss, Bus Ad ’55, vice chairman of Loomis & Sayles Company, L.P., who will receive the Money Management Lifetime Achievement award at the same event to be held May 14.

CNN calls Marquette 'a model program'
CNN featured Marquette in a segment about the graduation success for the men’s basketball team, which has one of the highest graduation rates in the Big East Conference. Academics are a priority for coach Buzz Williams and the entire athletics staff at Marquette.

Marquette holds inaugural corporate communication conference
Marquette will host the Corporate Communication Commons: Building the Corporate Conscience Conference, which will focus on how businesses can communicate their values to build trust. The two-day conference, co-sponsored by the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication and the Arthur W. Page Society, will be held April 19-20 at Johnston Hall and the Alumni Memorial Union. Learn more and register.

Marquette named 'Best College for ROI' in Wisconsin by Bloomberg Businessweek
Bloomberg Businessweek has named Marquette as the best return on investment for universities in Wisconsin. The results are based on a variety of criteria.

Dental School dean honored
School of Dentistry Dean William K. Lobb was recognized by the American Dental Education Association with the 2012 William J. Gies Award for Innovation as a dental educator. Lobb was nominated for his leadership in building Marquette’s dental school and for developing an innovative curricular model that served as a blueprint for that building. Read more.

Autism program at Marquette breaks new ground
As national estimates of autism rise, a promising research project at Marquette University is helping bright kids with the social disability better navigate the perilous teen years. The Marquette research team also is gathering new evidence that teaching these kids the subtle, unwritten rules of social interaction may lead to neurological changes in their brains. Story appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
