The Emerging Scholars Program (ESP) is an academic support program especially designed for entering freshmen who desire a jump start on the Marquette college experience in a close-knit community. By choosing to participate in this unique Marquette program, you will not only work ahead by earning three credits in the summer, but you will also benefit from academic support and personalized attention throughout your freshman year. The program runs from July through August.
Summer prep
Our program administrators will consult with you and design a summer program curriculum that supports your individual needs. During the five-week summer session, you will enroll in one three-credit course in an area of past academic strength and college prep courses designed to strengthen academic areas important to success at Marquette University.
In addition to attending classes during the summer, you will meet regularly with program staff to discuss your progress and start planning for the fall. ESP staff will live with and assist ESP students living in the residence hall during the summer session. The summer program includes organized social and cultural activities designed to build community among program participants and introduce students to the resources and opportunities present in Milwaukee.
Your freshman year
During the academic year, you continue to work closely with ESP staff. You can expect to receive personalized assistance with career planning/exploration and study skills, as well as assistance in selecting student groups, programs, and/or extracurricular opportunities for personal growth and development. ESP also offers academic workshops designed to meet students' specific needs and continues to build the ESP community through ESP-sponsored social and service activities.
You’ll be first!
By being on campus before any other new freshmen, you have the opportunity to get settled in with residence hall life, become familiar with our campus, and learn to get around Milwaukee before the start of the school year. Through various service projects and social events you are sure to develop close friendships with other ESP students.
