Reverend Dean Brackley, S.J. (Ph.D., Divinity School, University of Chicago, 1980)
held the Francis C. Wade, S.J. Chair at Marquette University for the 2010 spring semester. Father Brackley entered the Society of Jesus in 1964 and was ordained a priest in 1976. He worked in social ministry on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and in the South Bronx, and taught at Fordham University. After his time at Fordham, Father Brackley, a professor of theology and ethics, volunteered to work at the University of Central America in El Salvador following the massacre there by graduates of the School of the Americas in which six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and her daughter, were killed.

Father Brackley’s published works include The Call to Discernment in Troubled Times: New Perspectives on the Transformative Wisdom of Ignatius Loyola (Crossroad, 2004) and Divine Revolution: Salvation and Liberation in Catholic Thought (Orbis Books, 1996), among many others.

During the spring 2010 semester at Marquette Father Brackley taught Christian Faith in Cultural Contexts, Liberation Theology and Catholic Social Teaching: A Latin American Perspective. To view videos of his class lectures and course documents, please use the table below.

Father Brackley delivered the Wade Public Lecture on March 10, 2010, at 4 p.m. in the Beaumier Suites, Raynor Library. The title of Father Brackley’s lecture is "The Migrants: Illegals or God’s Ambassadors?" View the lecture here.
