Ignatian Imagination

imagine graphicFollowing the success of last year’s inaugural mission theme, En Todo Amar y Servir, the Office of Mission and Ministry and I would like to announce the new theme for the 2024-2025 academic year: Imagine.

“Ignatian imagination” is a common theme throughout St. Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises as he calls on us to imagine our path to God and to find profound joy.

In addition to St. Ignatius’ call, Mission and Ministry and I invite you to imagine what your upcoming year holds. Whether you’re a senior just nine short months away from Commencement, a freshman just beginning your Marquette experience, or a faculty or staff member helping our students reach their greatest heights, we encourage you this year to imagine.

Imagine what you aim to accomplish.

Imagine the positive difference you can make in the Marquette and Milwaukee communities by serving others.

Imagine a hope-filled year and a hope-filled future.

Imagine what God has in store for you   by contemplating God’s everlasting love.

AMDG,
Rev. John Thiede, S.J.
Vice President for Mission and Ministry

Thematic Statement

Our imagination is one of God’s greatest gifts to us.
For when we imagine, we experience the lives of others.
We can picture ourselves in their circumstances.
We gain insights about their points of view.
And we cultivate empathy.

When we imagine, we find a path to reflection.
In moments of stillness, we listen to our hearts.
We discern what’s truly right and good for us.
And we better understand God’s plan for our lives.

When we imagine, our call to serve is clear.
With greater compassion, we help others.
On common ground, we stand in solidarity.
Knowing God, we live in harmony.

God, expand our imaginations.
Grant us the vision to see goodness in all people.
Enlighten us with your will, and bless us with the strength to follow it.

Help us pray with imagination —
so that we can not only think of Jesus, but experience his love.
