Biographical Note: Daniel C. Maguire attended the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome where he earned his degree in sacred theology and was welcomed into the priesthood. His first job was a part-time position at Villanova University from 1960-1964. Maguire then worked as an interim assistant, an assistant professor, and an associate professor at Catholic University in Washington D.C. from 1966 until the early 1970’s, when he left the priesthood to marry, amidst controversy. Maguire then left to work for Marquette University in 1971, where he is Professor of Moral Ethics and specializes in religious ethics, focusing upon issues of social justice and medical and ecological ethics. Maguire is a prolific author who has written over 200 pieces, including “Different but Equal: A Moral Assessment of Women’s Liberation” (1971), “Death by Chance, Death by Choice” (1974), and “Affirmative Action at Bay” (1981). His published books include: Moral Absolutes and the Magisterium (1970), The Moral Choice (1975), Sacred Choices (2001), and Sacred Rights (2003). Maguire has received numerous awards from the states of Wisconsin and California, has received the award "Best Scholarly Book of the Year, 1978” for his book The Moral Choice, and has been recognized by many Catholic and feminist groups for his writings favoring Catholic reform and women’s rights.

Scope and Content: This collection consists of Maguire’s professional correspondence, publications, DVDs, audio cassettes, and documentation of his awards and recognitions. Publications include both pieces written by Maguire himself, as well as pieces written about Maguire. Also included are publications concerning dissenters to the Pope’s 1969 Humanae Vitae at Catholic University and Cardinal O’Boyle's reaction. The DVD and audio cassette collection consist of presentations and radio talk shows Maguire has given at various events and on various radio stations.
