History: The Diocese of Rapid City (Archives: Rapid City, South Dakota) has administered the Sioux Spiritual Center, Howes, Meade County, South Dakota.

1973-present

Jesuits (Archives: St. Louis, Missouri), under the auspices of the Diocese of Rapid City and with support from the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions (Archives: Milwaukee, Wisconsin), established and have administered the diocese’s permanent deaconate program

1977-2018

Jesuits, under the auspices of the Diocese of Rapid City and with support from the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions, established and administered the Sioux Spiritual Center as a spiritual retreat and education facility for Native American Catholics across North America (e.g. Dakota, Lakota, Ojibwa)

2018-present

The Center hired a non-Native lay director and opened its programs to non-Native Catholics while retaining a “preferential option” for the spiritual needs of Native American Catholics
