History: St. Mary Church, Mount Angel, Marion County, Oregon, has been a predominantly non-Native American parish in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon (Archives: Portland, Oregon). Benedictines (Archives: Angel Abbey, St. Benedict, Oregon) at St. Mary’s attended to Native American students at the Chemawa Government Indian School (e.g. Chinook, Klamath, Grand Ronde, Paiute), Salem, 1909-1915 (transferred to Mount Angel Abbey, St. Benedict).
