History: St. Francis Xavier Church, Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, had been a predominantly non-Native American parish in the Diocese of Tulsa (Archives: Broken Arrow, Oklahoma). First Oklahoma City (1969-1972) and then Tulsa diocesan priests at St. Francis attended to these Native American (Cherokee) missions in the Cherokee Nation:
