History:

1787-1836

Franciscans (Santo Evangelico Province) (Archives: Puebla, Mexico), including Fray Fermin de Lasuen, O.F.M. [Franciscans], established and administered La Purísima Concepción de Maria Santisima Mission (Chumash), Lompoc

Chumash Indians at La Purísima and Santa Inés Missions revolted against local Mexican military authority and were joined by Indians at San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Santa Bárbara, San Buenaventura, and San Fernando Rey de España Missions; the revolt disrupted activities at the mission for several months
