History: Immaculate Conception Church, Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, has been a predominantly non-Native American parish with a few Native American (e.g. Eskimo, Dena’ina) parishioners in the Diocese of Fairbanks (Archives: Fairbanks, Alaska).

Gold was discovered 16 miles north of Fairbanks

1904-present

Jesuits (Turin, Canada, California Provinces) (Archives: St. Louis, Missouri; Montreal, Quebec) established and administered Immaculate Conception Church/ Cathedral

1906

A diocesan priest established a Catholic hospital

1966-1969

Immaculate Conception Church served as the first cathedral for the Diocese of Fairbanks

1974-1980 (closed?)

Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary (Archives: Sinsinawa, Wisconsin) staffed Immaculate Conception Grade School

Jesuits from Immaculate Conception attended the following missions and stations:

1904-1920 (Natives diminished)

Eagle City station (Eskimo)

1922-1950, 1960-1963 (became a parish)

St. Theresa Mission (Eskimo, Dena’ina), Nenana

1974-2000 (became a parish)

St. Patrick Church (Eskimo), Barrow
