History: The Dominican Sisters of Peace self-identify with the post-nominal initials, “O.P.” They were formed through the union of seven former Dominican foundations, 2009, with an eighth Dominican foundation added, 2012. Four former foundations served Native Americans:

1939-1980s

Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic/ Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Eucharist of the Third Order of St. Dominic (New Orleans, Louisiana) taught at St. Eloi Church and School (Houma), Theriot, Louisiana

1949-1968

Dominican Sisters. Dominican Sisters of the Third Order of St. Dominic (Grand Rapids, Michigan) taught at St. John the Baptist School (Tewa), Ohkay Owingeh/ San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico

1971-1972

Dominican Sisters. Congregation of St. Rose of Lima (Oxford, Michigan), taught at St. Joseph Indian School (Brulé Lakota, Sans Arc Lakota, Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota), Chamberlain, South Dakota

1978-present

Dominican Sisters of Great Bend (Great Bend, Kansas), ministered to Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians, Canton, Longdale, and Hammon, Oklahoma
