A professor of history at Eastern Michigan University, 1969-1997, known for her work with previously untapped sources on colonial Latin America. Her notable works include Forgotten Females: Women of African and Indian Descent in Colonial Chile, 1535-1800, with Eugene H. Korth, S.J., 1983; Two Families in Colonial Chile, 1989; and The Tribunal of Posthumous Estates in Colonial Chile, 1540-1769, 1998.

Scope and Content

Typed excerpts, transcripts, and research notes mostly in Spanish, pertaining to Jesuit missions and government relations among Mapuche Indians in Chile from the 16th through 18th centuries. Notable topics include misiones de Arauco, Audiencia de la Plata [Paraguay]; guerra defensiva, servicio personal, causes of revolts. Each document includes notes identifying its provenance. The collection is divided into archival and published sources, and then arranged first alphabetically by name and there under numerically and chronologically by cataloguing conventions and dates.
