Career goals: After completing my master's degree, I hope to work in a hospital setting. My two greatest interests right now are working in a speech pathology clinic in a children's hospital or being a neonatal SLP, helping babies with feeding and swallowing. Ultimately, my main goal is to connect with patients to help them grow.
Why did you choose the College of Health Sciences at Marquette? My entire career, I have known that I wanted to help people. I chose the College of Health Sciences at Marquette because I felt supported by the faculty, upperclassmen students, and my peers, fostering a new community within Marquette. I would be supported while simultaneously pushed academically and personally to do my best. Speech Pathology & Audiology is a major not offered at many schools and not with the rare and unique opportunities Marquette provides—with clinical experience as an undergrad, participation in research labs, student clubs, and so much more. I knew I needed a school that would allow me the opportunity to work hands-on, and the clinical experience has allowed me that exact opportunity as well as my involvement in research labs, I feel I have been able to grow as a person and student, and the connections I have and continue to make within the CHS program have made it clear how important this program is to succeed in future endeavors and profession.
How did you pick your major/program? I grew up loving the healthcare profession, and being able to connect and treat people was a great interest of mine. I looked into different healthcare professions as well as clinical psychology. I had heard of speech pathology before and had some interest but had yet to know what it entailed. I mentioned my interest to my college counselor, who set up a meeting with me and the high school speech pathologist. After that I was committed to the profession. A friend of mine had gone to Marquette for Grad School and proposed the idea of applying there. I looked into Marquette’s College of Health Sciences. I felt connected to what was offered, the tight-knit Speech Pathology & Audiology program, the clinical opportunity before graduating. I felt that immediate support from all the professors and students allowed me to continue to fall in love with the major.
What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot on campus is definitely the space outside the AMU, I love the green space and the space to sit and hang out with friends, especially when it’s warm out!
