Overview
Overview:
The Course Enrollment and Student Credit Hours report offers census data, end-of-term data, and preliminary data on course enrollment, student credit hours (SCH), and sections for the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. This report contains data on a wide range of course characteristics, including class size, course career, course college, course level, instruction mode, instructor college, and instructor type. It also allows you to view course enrollment by the following student characteristics: academic career, student college, academic level, and year at Marquette.
Refer to the "Data Refresh Schedule" section to understand the differences between census data, end-of-term data, and preliminary data.
For the purposes of this report, an academic year begins with a Fall term and ends with a Summer term (e.g., academic year 2023-24 includes Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024).
Metrics:
Use the "select metric" filter to switch from one metric to another. Each metric can be defined as follows:
Enrollment-Census (N): Course enrollments as of the census date. Each student in each course is counted. Most students enroll in more than one course, so the total number of course enrollments in a given term will always be larger than the total number of students who attended Marquette in a given term.
Enrollment-Census (%): The percentage of course enrollments that fall into a given category (e.g., the percentage of course enrollments that were online vs. in-person).
SCH-Census (N): Student credit hours (SCH) as of the census date. SCH are computed by multiplying course enrollments by course credits. For example, if 50 students enrolled in a 3-credit course, the SCH for that course would be 150.
SCH-Census (%): The percentage of SCH that fall into a given category (e.g., the percentage of SCH that were online vs. in-person).
Sections (N): Number of class sections (aka, course sections). Cross-listed sections are apportioned based on enrollment so that sections are not double-counted.
Sections (%): The percentage of sections that fall into a given category (e.g., the percentage of sections that are online vs. in-person).
Enrollment-End of Term (N, %): For terms that are in the past, this metric shows the course enrollments as of the end of the term. For terms that are still active, this metric shows the course enrollments as of the "data age" that is shown in the top-right corner of the report.
SCH-End of Term (N, %): For terms that are in the past, this metric shows student credit hours (SCH) as of the end of the term. For terms that are still active, this metric shows SCH as of the "data age" that is shown in the top-right corner of the report.

Custom Student Crosstab: This page allows you to create a custom bar chart and table by selecting a Y-Axis and a Legend variable.
Filters:
Use the "Report Filters" to select the academic terms and metrics you are interested in. Use the "Course Filters" to filter by college, department, subject, course, level, component, instruction mode, individual instruction status, MCC status, and/or session.
More information about the filter fields can be found in the term definitions below.
Data Refresh Schedule:
Census data for each term are frozen at a particular point in time (see table below). Census data should be used for official reporting purposes.
Term | Census Date |
Summer | Mid-July |
Fall | Late September (5th Tuesday) |
Spring | Early February (4th Tuesday) |
End-of-term data for course enrollments and student credit hours reflect the state of affairs as of the last day of the term. End-of-term data should not be used for official reporting purposes.
When a new term becomes active, preliminary data for the term will be refreshed nightly until the census date, when it will be frozen and become official. Preliminary data should not be reported externally and may contain errors that will be corrected prior to the census date.
