Campus Conversations on Data, Ethics, and Society
The Center celebrated its founding with a launch event on April 4, 2022 focusing on Campus Conversations on Data, Ethics, and Society.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Andrew Gustafson (Marquette Ph.D. Philosophy, 2001). Dr. Gustafson is a Professor of Business Ethics and Society at Creighton University, where he teaches business ethics and is director of the Business, Faith, and Common Good Institute. His talk provoked us to consider emerging data ethics concerns through a lens of Ignatian values:
"Jesuit values and Catholic Social Thought Principles, as well as Ignatian reflection can be powerful tools to help us provide human-flourishing-focused thought-leadership in this important field today."
The event also featured a multidisciplinary panel of researchers, teachers, and practitioners from across our campus community who shared how their activities and insights can help shape the Center's future. Participants included:
- Amber Wichowsky (Political Science)
- Bruce Boyden (Law School)
- Danelle Orange (Raynor Memorial Libraries)
- Joseph Ogbonnaya (Theology)
- Sabirat Rubya (Computer Science)
- Scott Rex (Marketing, and Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute)
The event concluded with a student poster session featuring on-going work that aligns with the Center's research and pedagogy goals.
