Yaroslav (Alex) Savtchouk, Ph.D.

Dr. Savtchouk is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University. He completed his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Prof. Andrea Volterra at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He obtained his Ph.D. at Penn State University and LSU Health Sciences Center (graduate advisor: SQ. June Liu) and his B.S at Franklin and Marshall College. Dr. Savtchouk joined the BISC faculty in October 2018.

Research Interests
Dr. Savtchouk studies communication between brain neurons and astrocytes using two-photon imaging and electrophysiology. He is interested in understanding how the information is processed in the cerebellar cortex, and in particular the interactions of GABAergic stellate and basket cells, Bergmann glia astrocytes, and monoamines.
