Dr. Kirchhoff earned her PhD in biological anthropology from the University of Minnesota; she began studying anatomy in graduate school because she thought it would make her a better anthropologist (it did), and developed an abiding interest in the human body and the ways we learn about it. She believes that the study of anatomy is relevant to anyone who has a body.
Her teaching philosophy centers on the relationship between anatomists and body donors. Her research interests include the ways that behavior affects the skeleton, skeletal and dental trauma and pathology in non-human primates, anatomical variation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Prior to joining the faculty at Marquette in 2016, Dr. Kirchhoff taught anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center for 6 years. There, she enjoyed teaching human gross anatomy to osteopathic medical, physical therapy, physician assistant, and graduate students, as well as advising pre-professional master’s students and anatomy Ph.D. students.
