The Pull of Home - Joan of Arc Chapel

The pull of home

by Megan Coulomb Fischer,
Comm ‘05

I purposely went out of my way — 83 blocks out of my way — because it’s calming.

I feel understood by a community unaware of my presence.

There was something pulling me back. Read the full story.

Education Magazine: Catching their spark
Education MagazineIt's less common these days for college students to choose to become teachers or other educators. But when students make this choice — and make the transition from sitting in the desks to standing in front of the classroom — something equally unusual often happens. They catch their spark, their abiding passion to shape the lives of others. And how it happens is always different, as these four personal stories from Marquette University students can attest. March reflection: Easter miracle is the recognition that God loves us every day
Risen ChristAs we look to the celebration of Easter, the resurrection story reminds us that no matter what we face, no matter what our fears, we can look forward with hope. Some use the phrase "looking beyond the empty tomb."

When the women arrive at Jesus' tomb on Easter morning, they see what isn’t there. The story is a metaphor for personal, spiritual and community renewal. We are called to witness the resurrection through the potential that we renew our hearts, our homes and our communities.

We have been invited to take part in this miracle. Not as passive observers, but rather as full participants in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Easter is our time to share in the glory of God. The glory of the empty tomb. The glory of the presence of the risen Jesus who is with us here and now.

The very raising of Jesus is an example of God's presence in our world. Like the friends of Jesus, we stare into the empty tomb, not knowing what to make of this event. It was a teaching moment as Jesus revealed himself in his absence. It allowed those gathered to confirm their faith in the fact that this man was the son of God. The resurrection may be described as the greatest miracle of Jesus. In reality, the greatest miracle is our recognition that God loves us and God is present in our lives each and every day.

Happy Easter.
