Rivers, Chicago alumni among recipients at Alumni National Awards Weekend

Joined by Alumnus of the Year and Chicago native Glenn “Doc” Rivers, Arts ’85, several Chicago-area alumni will be honored at Alumni National Awards Weekend, April
26-28.

Innovation Workshop debuts at MillerCoors

Marquette CIRCLES
Join Marquette alumni and friends on Wednesday, April 25, as Marquette CIRCLES and the Kohler Center for Entrepreneurshp debuts its Innovation Workshop. Held at MillerCoors, the program includes an innovation panel discussion with Marquette alumni executives from the Chicago Cubs, MillerCoors and IDEO. Space is limited; reserve now.

Robert M. Hart and Catherine VethRobert M. Hart, Comm ’02, and Catherine Veth were married Oct. 15, 2011, at St. Benedict’s Church in Chicago. Marquette alumni in the wedding party included Mark E. Veth, Arts ’97; Kerry (Nolan) Veth, Comm ’03; Andrew R. LaVigne, Arts ’02; and Kathleen A. Hart, Comm ’08. Brother Matthew P. Hart, Arts ’05, served as best man. The groom is the morning news anchor at Chicago’s newest all-news radio station, WIQI, FM. News 101.1.

Gail PolzinGail Polzin, Comm ’87, is the director, campaigns and strategy, at United Airlines. Gail and her husband, Michael, Comm ’85, live in Buffalo Grove.

Hank AaronHank Aaron to be Commencement Speaker
Baseball legend Hank Aaron will be Marquette’s Commencement speaker at this year’s spring graduation ceremony on May 20. In addition to Aaron’s famous contributions to baseball, he has worked on behalf of racial equality, civil rights and helping others through his Chasing the Dream Foundation, which helps underprivileged children.

Theology professor receives national book award

Dr. Ulrich Lehner, assistant professor of theology, has been awarded the John Gilmary Shea Prize by the American Catholic Historical Association for his recent book, Enlightened Monks: The German Benedictines (1740-1803). The prize is awarded to the book that has made the most significant and unprecedented contribution to the knowledge of Catholic history, as decided by the ACHA. Learn more.

In the news: New AD Williams settles into director's chair
Larry Williams, Marquette University's new athletic director, is spending much of his time reviewing the athletic program, meeting with the university's head coaches and thinking about Marquette's place in collegiate athletics. Story appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
