College of Business Administration Alumni Award Recipients
YOUNG ALUMNA OF THE YEAR AWARD
Tammylynne S. Jonas, Grad '06
Germantown, Wis.
At the age of 26, Tammylynne, vice president of information technology at Kohl's Corp., was one of the youngest students in the history of Marquette’s Executive MBA program. In her 13 years at Kohl’s, she has received five promotions, from director of operations to her current role, and three years ago she started a women-in-technology group for the retail giant.
Tammylynne aspires to be a chief operating officer, an apt fit for her ambitious nature. But she credits her success to something more than drive — her Marquette MBA education. “I firmly believe that my course work at Marquette helped prepare me for the additional challenges of being an executive,” she says.
Living in Germantown, Wis., with her husband and three children, Tammylynne considers family and faith instrumental in her life. Her faith was tested shortly after graduating from Marquette when she experienced the loss of her second son. “In that moment, I understood how important faith was, and how personal and professional achievements were empty without a strong foundational faith to hold everything up,” she says.
Tammylynne serves on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin and was named one of the Milwaukee Business Journal's 40 Under 40.
Fun Facts:
Dream dinner guest: I would love to have dinner with Sheryl Sandberg. She is a strong example of leadership and grace in times of triumph and tragedy. Although she didn't choose the public spotlight, she is a role model for many in technology and the business world in general.
Influential faculty member: Dr. Jeanne Simmons was a strong influence in my time at Marquette. From the application process though graduation, she checked in to make sure that we had everything we needed to be successful.
