LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT aWARD

Kathleen M. Andrykowski, Bus Ad '80
Port Washington, Wis.

Kathy was a standout two-sport star in basketball and volleyball, but some of her fondest Marquette memories were formed off the court. Traveling to road games by van, often in cramped quarters, she and her teammates studied, talked and bonded together.
Along the way, she learned the value of time management, respect for others, camaraderie and teamwork — all things that would guide her in her career after basketball.

“Success is being able to look in the mirror and realize that you have given your all, remained true to your principles, grown as a person, achieved your goals and earned the respect of your peers and family,” she says.

Kathy played volleyball and basketball for Marquette from the 1977 season through the 1980 season. She finished her basketball career as the program’s all-time leading scorer and went on to play professionally in the United States, England, Italy and Spain.

She went on to a career in grant research and management at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Today, she is a part-time administrator in Mequon, Wis., and volunteers for 100+ Women Who Care, an organization that bands together to help charitable causes.

In 1991 Andrykowski become the first female inductee to the Marquette M Club Hall of Fame. Her No. 21 uniform was retired in 2005, marking the first time a women’s basketball jersey was retired at Marquette.

Fun Fact:
Kathy learned Italian while playing overseas and still speaks it today. She has hosted an Italian exchange student each of the past two summers.
