DR. MICHAEL R. CLARK, H SCI '02
Wausau, Wis.
Medicine is, according to James Bryce, “the only profession that labors incessantly to destroy the reason for its own existence.”
Now meet somebody interested in destroying the very lifeblood of his career, Dr. Michael Clark.
Michael is the emergency medical services medical director for Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Wis., and the Weston Base of Ministry Health Care’s Spirit Medical Transportation Systems. As medical director, he monitors the quality of field performance and medical direction and ensures that field personnel have expert direction for emergency care immediately available to them.
Following Ministry Saint Clare’s protocol, Michael also is medical director for the Schofield Fire Department, the Village of Kronenwetter First Responders and Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI). In addition, he serves on hospital, regional and state emergency preparedness committees and is a member of the Wisconsin EMS Physician Advisory Committee.
With the spare time that remains, Michael also is clinical director for MedFest, a sports physical program that’s part of the SOWI Healthy Athletes Program, and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, National Association of EMS Physicians and Air Medical Physician Association.
After earning his degree in biomedical sciences from Marquette, Michael earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and did his residency in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Fun fact: Michael says his parents were the most influential people in his life: “My parents sacrificed much to help get me to where I am today and taught me my work ethic.”
