Five
Questions With...
Aleisha Jaeger, Eng '03
(Ellie Shorter, Engineering student mentee)
1. What piece of advice do you have for mentees?
Don’t ever stop asking questions and being curious to learn new things. It’s completely acceptable to NOT have all the answers. What gives you even more credibility is when you know you don’t and you engage others to help, inform, guide and teach you.
2. Favorite place on campus?
I always loved going to Mass at St. Joan of Arc Chapel. The The Pit in the engineering building was like a second home.
3. Current or last book you’ve read?
Brene Brown’s Daring Greatly.
4.
Your career dream job when you graduated from Marquette was…
I wanted to run my own construction company.
5. How do you manage work/life balance?
It’s important to have quality time not only with family/loved ones but also for yourself. It’s easy to lose track of your own hobbies, interests or identity especially when you’re new in your career and wanting to prove yourself. Dedication to work is necessary, but so is finding some sort of routine to make time for yourself too. In the long run you’ll grow more both professionally and personally.
Aleisha Jaeger is construction director at Gilbane Building Company in Chicago.
